PHYSIO LED PILATES

Pilates is a form of exercise which can be used in the rehabilitation of an injury or longer term problem. It is also hugely beneficial in enhancing general posture, strength, flexibility and control. It is an excellent way of keeping your body in shape and preventing future problems, especially in sports.

At Sidmouth Physio, Pilates & Acupuncture, Pilates is practised according to the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute method and is taught on a mat. This method was developed based on the traditional Pilates exercises created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. These exercises have been extensively scientifically analysed over many years and have been modified for use in rehabilitation as well as for the prevention of injury. They have also been adapted to suit the changes in lifestyles and activities of the 21st century.

All Pilates sessions and classes at Sidmouth Physio, Pilates & Acupuncture are taught by Aileen White, qualified Physiotherapist and Pilates Matwork Instructor. As a qualified Physiotherapist, specialist extensive knowledge of anatomy, pathology and skills in movement analysis ensure a greater depth to the teaching of Pilates. This enables the development of bespoke Pilates exercise programmes based on individual client needs.

At Sidmouth Physio Pilates & Acupuncture, Pilates can be taught within Physiotherapy or Acupuncture sessions or we offer a variety of specific Pilates sessions.

We offer:

  • Bespoke 1:1 sessions based on your needs and goals with the benefit of hands on instruction and exercise modification as required*.

  • 1:1 Beginner or Intermediate Courses covering optimal postural alignment and a range of strengthening and stretching exercises for the whole body. Each course consists of 5 30 minute sessions chosen at times which suit you.

  • 1:2 sessions. For friends or couples wishing to have a bespoke session at a less expensive rate than 1:1 sessions with the added enjoyment of attending together*.

  • Face to face Physio-led group classes. Classes have a maximum of 11 clients to ensure more individualised tuition and that all participants are able to perform the exercises well and at a level that is appropriate and safe for them. Before joining a class, a 1:1 30 minute pre-class session at the Woolbrook Road Clinic is necessary if you haven't previously had Pilates sessions through Sidmouth Physio. In the 1:1 session your medical history and ability to do a few key exercises will be assessed. You will be taught the Pilates basics and emailed written information with details of these exercises to improve your understanding before starting the class. The 1:1 session enables Aileen to get to know you a little before attending your first class which will make your classes as safe, enjoyable and as beneficial as possible.

The next full block of classes start on Tuesday 4th June 2024 for 8 weeks but it is possible to join mid block.

*With bespoke Pilates exercise plans, the first Pilates 1:1 or 1:2 session will involve a thorough assessment to discuss your general health and goals and to assess your posture, strength, flexibility and control. This enables us to develop an individualised plan to help you achieve your goals.

Please contact us if you have any further queries, to book or register your interest in potential future classes or to discuss which type of session would be most suitable for you.
